Why Participate?
Because with your help, we all win.
Did you know that 1 out of every 10 Americans has a family member with a disability? You may have a child or family member with a disability. Or if not, talk to a friend or co-worker. You’ll be surprised to learn that they have a family member living with a disability. And for many years, people with disabilities lived in state hospitals or large institutions, away from their families and cut off from their homes and communities.
Through the hard work, perserverance and tenacity of the Tapemark benefiting charities, people once housed in institutions now live in homes in the community or with their families. All of the money raised throuogh the Tapemark Pro-Am goes back to these important charities to support their work.
More than 200,000 people in Minnesota live with some form of developmental or learning disability, including mental retardation, Down’s Syndrome, autism or cerebral palsy.
By sponsoring the Tapemark Pro-Am, you make sure that every person with a disability in Minnesota has a fighting chance to live a life of hope and opportunity.
Did you know…autism is a brain disorder that diminishes a person’s ability to communicate, reason and interact with others. Autism is more common than childhood cancer, cystic fibrosis and multiple sclerosis combined. And autism is a lifelong disability. One out of every 250 children born today will develop some form of autism and it is 4 times more common in boys than girls. Autism does not discriminate, it is found equally in all walks of life and in all populations around the world.
